Hallmarking Explained

At SilverImprints, all our charms are handcrafted in 925 sterling silver, unless otherwise stated. Hallmarking is a traditional British standard that guarantees the purity and authenticity of precious metals—offering added reassurance for those who value a visible mark of quality and origin.

If you would like your piece to be officially tested and hallmarked by the Birmingham Assay Office, simply tick the hallmarking option when placing your order. This process adds a formal stamp of assurance to your keepsake and is especially meaningful for heirloom gifting or future generations.

What does the hallmark mean?

This is how the hallmark will appear on the back or inside of your item:

  • EK – Our registered maker’s mark (Erica, SilverImprints)
  • 925 – Confirms the purity of sterling silver (92.5%)
  • Anchor – Symbol of the Birmingham Assay Office
  • Lion – Traditional symbol for sterling silver
  • Date Letter – Indicates the year the piece was hallmarked

Additional Cost

Selecting this option adds £12 to your order to cover:

  • Secure delivery to and from the Birmingham Assay Office
  • Official testing and hallmarking fees

While not required for most of our pieces, hallmarking offers peace of mind, a visible date stamp, and a lasting symbol of authenticity.
